Boudoir Accessories & Props

Contrary to popular belief, it's my clients who decide the style and look of their shoots. I knoooow, shock horror! And you thought it was me who gave all the creative direction on the mood and style of the images. Boy, are you wrong, young lady!!

Okay, maybe I'm fibbing slightly - it sounded a bit like a cop-out right?! I'll undoubtedly have a say when it comes to the boudoir photography lighting, for example. In that regard, natural light is my favourite form of boudoir lighting. I'm not one for artificial light and artificial spaces. We've all seen those images. A woman on her back, on a bed, in a dark room with a feather boa wrapped around her... this style is exactly what I'm trying to avoid! Each to their own of course and if that's what my client wants, then so be it! But I'm here to remind you there are alternative boudoir photography prop ideas. Who are YOU? What do YOU want to portray on the shoot? Forget what you think is right or wrong but let's lean into your core. That's where we'll discover a great set of ideas for your shoot.

During the planning stages of a session with me, you'll create a Pinterest board and pin ideas and inspiration on how you'll like your boudoir boutique photos to feel to when you're viewing them in 10, 20, 30 years from now. That could be anything from light and airy to dark and moody. You'll get a feel for what boudoir accessories you'll need to bring along with you also! You may find once you book a shoot that you may have no idea what you want, but once you start curating your boudoir mood board, you'll find yourself slowly piecing together a look/feel. You may also find you change your mind three times before your shoot! That's cool too!

Photographers often ask me how to take boudoir photos, the best lens for boudoir photography, how to shoot boudoir photography and how to do boudoir photography. My answer is super simple, to be honest with you - make your subject your focus. The subject is everything. If you can make your subject feel at ease, comfortable and happy, you'll take great photos with greater ease, instead of worrying about boudoir photography lenses!
